PROJECTS IN THE WORKS – MIRAGE HARDWOOD FLOORING
The colour of your wood flooring can drastically change the feel of your home, which is why getting the note-perfect flooring for each project is paramount.
We work on so many different styles of homes, from sprawling Scandinavian farmhouses to modern lofts, and Mirage Hardwood Flooring always has what we need. They’re a Canadian company, all their products are designed and manufactured right in Quebec and we trust their quality with our clients because they have some of the most wear-resistant floors in the industry—after all, your hardwood is an investment, not something you’ll want to replace every five-to-10 years. It’s almost shocking to think about, but good hardwood should see your house into the next century.
We used the same Mirage White Oak Bubble Bath Character Brushed hardwood in two very different projects that are interesting to compare side-to-side to see how much the colour affects the aesthetic.
One Project is a modern farmhouse in Langley. We incorporated a herringbone pattern and in the character-brushed oak from Mirage it makes the home look a bit more modern and minimal without detracting from that cozy farmhouse feel.
The second project in the British Properties is totally different, it’s an ultra-modern homemade of primarily concrete and glass. We like that the same white-washed oak hardwood flooring from Mirage can be used in such different styles of homes for different effects. And with Mirage, the quality of the finishes and the textures are very good so we know that no matter what type of house it is, whether it’s a family home with a bunch of kids, or just a place with a well-behaved dog, we know that these high-quality floors wear equally well with time and daily use.
You can see from the photos how doing a lighter colour of flooring will make the home feel a touch more modern and bright overall. Right now, we’re using a lot of white oaks and white-washed oaks because it is so effective at adding just the right dose of modern and contemporary. It’s something a lot of people are really drawn to right now to brighten up their homes.
In our Justin and Andy project we used a custom-colour Charcoal White Oak from Mirage Hardwood Flooring to add character. It’s interesting, when you’re doing a farmhouse, everything else is not modern, so you use the flooring, which is more modern, to make the space overall feel a little more updated (as seen above!).
But in this case, we were designing a modern interior, and we wanted it to look more historical, so we opted for a darker wood floor. The style of this house is Parisian modern. It’s like we mixed a Paris apartment and an American heritage home, like something out of Martha’s Vineyard. And so in this home we wanted to choose a flooring that was timeless, something that would have looked good 100 years ago and would look good 100 years from now. So we chose this kind of deep, grey-washed chestnut colour and we think it looks really beautiful.
